Killer Burger, Portland, Oregon

After realizing that the most popular breakfast/brunch place in Portland had a 90 minute wait ("...just call it lunch!"), we noticed that majority of the food trucks were closed for New Year's Day.  We passed on a lot of the food we could have easily found back home in Cali, but something about Killer Burger just snagged us.  Maybe it was the 30 degree weather.  Maybe...

Knowing full and well that we were about to eat at Mother's, we decided to split a burger and fries.  It was 11 AM and we hadn't eaten anything at this point (surprising, I know...) so "let's just get something to hold us over..."  The best famous last words ever.

I decided I wanted a bar table to get away from the family commotion going on in the front of the joint.  I don't drink often, but when in a town known for their micro-brews and ciders and I don't have to drive???  When in Rome...

I have Tiana well trained.  When she orders things that she doesn't want in her food, she automatically orders it on the side so her not so subtle husband can add it to his plate.  Tiana usually skips cheese, and you know damn well you can't have a supposed "Philly Cheesesteak" burger without cheese.  You just can't.  So sure...cheese on the side.

I tell her to take the first half since cutting this burger would seem like a messy sin.  I probably got 1/3 of a burger as she demolished this pre-breakfast burger.  Yes.  I said "pre-breakfast".  We still kept our reservation for "brunch".  I finished the crisp, well made cider and put my cold weather clothes on with a new Asian glow.  It's time to walk to Mother's.

Paul's Tips:

  • You're in a microbrew/cider heavy town.  Please enjoy responsibly.
  • Reading the menu the first time felt like I was reading the flavors at Scoops for the first time.  Check out the menu and you'll see what I mean.
  • After watching me eat a chunk of a burger left by my loving wife, the gracious cook came out and told us they would have split the burger for us before bringing it out.  Lesson learned.
